You need a hook

I have been working this week with a writer who has opted to use our Submission Package service to help him prepare his novel for submission to agents and publishers. I loved his work from the first paragraph and it looks like it will be one of those occasions where fine tuning the submission is a real pleasure.

As part of the package we help writers to perfect their synopsis and cover letter. In an exchange of emails I asked the writer for a brief biography. He responded with a good biography but asked why he needed such detail?

The answer is simple.

When a publisher is considering publishing a manuscript, they are looking at more than the words on the paper. Publishers are looking for a hook - a story on which the book can be hung. The book market is a very competitive place and a writer with a good story and charisma will go a long way.

So my advice is work on you book.

Make it the best it can be.

Then work on your story and make that the best it can be.
